Legislative and Regulatory Affairs

Advocacy seeks to ensure that all people in society are able to have their voices heard on issues that are important to them. Our advocacy seeks to protect and promote our rights as citizens. Advocacy ensures that we have our views genuinely considered when decisions are being made about our lives. There is nothing more fundamental to our role as citizens in a free society than exercising our rights under the 1st Amendment to the Constitution "...or the right...to petition the Government for a redress of grievances," as "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech."

Thinking, speaking, and informing public policymakers of how we believe policy should be made is one of the noblest actions of a people in a free society. The process we go through to decide what issues to focus on and how we speak on those issues is the ultimate act of self-government.

Effective advocacy does not happen by accident. It is built on experience, strategy, credibility, judgment, and disciplined execution.

For more than 40 years, IAPG has stood at the intersection of law, policy, regulation, business, and public affairs. With direct involvement in more than 1,000 legislative, regulatory, and public policy initiatives, IAPG has worked across the full spectrum of government—from the halls of Congress, executive branch agencies, and the White House in Washington, D.C., to state legislatures, public utility commissions, and state regulatory agencies across the country.

From state capitals to the nation’s capital, IAPG has helped lead, shape, coordinate, and execute advocacy strategies on issues of substantial consequence to business, industry, consumers, trade associations, and regulated communities. That experience is not theoretical. It is practical, tested, and grounded in the realities of how government decisions are made—and how those decisions can affect an organization’s financial, operational, and strategic future.

IAPG’s experience is both broad and deep. We have developed, managed, and coordinated state and federal legislative and regulatory initiatives involving tax policy, transportation, energy markets, oil, natural gas, electricity, low-income energy assistance, environmental law, climate policy, commodity markets, financial services reform, health care, and complex budgetary matters.

Our work has included major federal and state policy issues arising under RCRA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, CERCLA, EPCRA, the Energy Policy Act, NEPA, OSHA, the Safe Drinking Water Act, Dodd-Frank, SEC and CFTC oversight, Federal Reserve policy, PPACA, and other critical statutory and regulatory frameworks.

When the stakes are high, organizations need more than activity. They need a strategy, a voice, a disciplined plan, and an advocate who understands how to move law, policy, and public opinion. IAPG brings that experience to the table.

IAPG has led industry-sector legislative, regulatory, and communications strategies designed to protect client interests, advance policy objectives, respond to government action, and shape public understanding. We have also developed successful consumer and media campaigns that placed client priorities within a broader public-interest framework.

Our association practice brings the judgment, experience, and execution necessary to help any organization establish, strengthen, and manage its legislative and regulatory affairs program.

When the stakes are high, your organization needs more than activity. It needs strategy. It needs credibility. It needs results. IAPG delivers all three.
